Transistor made from single atom

A team of Australian physicists has created the world's first functioning single-atom transistor, which could prove a critical building block toward the development of super-fast computers.  The nano-sized electronic device, uses as its active component an individual phosphorus atom patterned between atomic-scale electrodes and electrostatic control gates.  For more, see this CBC news item.

Mars Science Laboratory and Curiosity Ready for Launch Nov. 26

NASA's latest Mars rover, Curiosity, is ready for launch this Saturday aboard an Atlas V rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex 41.  Curiosity is the size of a car, about twice the size of previous rovers Spirit and Opportunity.  The rover is scheduled to land on Mars in August 2012, after a jouney of 569.7 million kilometres.  See also NASA's new Mars rover Curiosity called scientific dream machine and the NASA Mars Scie
